CONSERVATION
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Besides providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans, forests also offer watershed protection, prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change. Whereas Wildlife conservation refers to the practice of protecting wild species and their habitats in order to maintain healthy wildlife species or populations and to restore, protect or enhance natural ecosystem. Major threats to wildlife include habitat destruction, degradation, fragmentation, overexploitation, poaching, pollution and climate change.
Conservation Of Trees
It is very important to conserver our forests because:
1)Trees are nature’s recycling machines. They take carbon dioxide and transform it into oxygen.
2) Forest supports a huge variety of animal life we also depend on for food. Without forests, these animals would die.
3) Forests prevent soil erosion Trees reduce soil erosion by anchoring the soil with their roots. The leaves and branches that fall from trees also help keep rainfall from washing soil away.
How to conserve our forests?
It is important for us to conserve or forests. The following are the ways we can conserve our forest:
1)By Afforestation-Afforestation usually involves tree planting in agricultural or other lands that have been abandoned due to poor soil quality or overgrazing. Over time, the soil was depleted, so now not much will grow there. Abandoned urban areas, such as land formerly cleared for buildings that no longer stand, can also be good candidates for smaller afforestation projects.
2)By reducing Over Grazing-Overgrazing is grazing by livestock or wildlife to the point where the grass cover is depleted, leaving bare, unprotected patches of soil. As a result, water and wind cause erosion, especially on clay soils, and the growth of poisonous plants and thorny shrubs may increase.
Conservation Of Wildlife
As we are destructing the habitats this became a main threat to the wildlife. As we are clearing the forests and building houses, industries, roads, dams etc. and left very less are for wildlife. Afforestation is the best method of wildlife conservation because trees provide food and shelter for animals.
Endangered species: These species are a species that is very likely to become extinct in the near future, either worldwide or in a particular area or country. Example: Sumatran Elephant.
Epidemic Species: Endemic species are those animals that exist only in one place or region. Species can be endemic to large or small areas of the world. Some may be endemic to the particular continent; some are endemic to a part of a continent, and others to a single island. Example: Asiatic lion.
Extinct Species: Earth is home to lots of wonderful wildlife, but sadly, some species that once called our planet home today no longer exist. These are known as extinct animals. Example: Dodo
What is wildlife conservation?
Wildlife conservation is an activity in which humans make conscious efforts to protect plants and other animal species and their habitats. Wildlife conservation is very important because wildlife and wilderness play an important role in maintaining the ecological balance and contribute to human quality of life.
How to conserve Wildlife?
Steps to conserve wildlife :
1) Forest authorities should not allow the indiscriminate killing of wild birds and animals, regardless of their abundance.
2) More National Parks and Sanctuaries should be built throughout the country to protect the natural environments of wild animals and birds.
3) We should pay special attention to the survival of endangered wild animals and birds in order to avoid their extinction.
